Extension of the Catania – Paternò railway network

Learning outcomes

The project for the Misterbianco Centro – Paternò metropolitan section is part of the program to strengthen and transform the railway line launched by the Circumetnea Railway to progressively transform the current narrow gauge line into an ordinary gauge and electrified line.
The Misterbianco–Paternò section represents the last section that completes the entire metro line, a total of 30 km long which will connect Paternò with Catania and its airport.
The amount of the overall intervention is 632.639.577,34 million.
The planned section is 11,5 kilometers long and starts from the point where the new Nesima Misterbianco Centro section ends, corresponding to the progressive 9+223.25 and ends just north of Paternò, at the point where the Paternò-section begins Adrano, at progressive number 20+773.54.
The municipalities crossed are in order: Misterbianco, Camporotondo Etneo, Belpasso and Paternò, all belonging to the province of Catania.
